Detour Dishes: Robatachiki

The best travel memories are often found in the places you never planned to stop. As part of Detour Dishes, our collaboration with Urbanlist and Southern Cross Travel Insurance, we're celebrating the unexpected bites, hidden gems and unforgettable flavours discovered along the way.

Inspired by late-night snack runs through Osaka, our Head Chef Lily McGrath has reimagined one of Japan’s most iconic convenience store treats: Famichiki.

Introducing Robatachiki.

We start with juicy boneless chicken thigh, wrapped in an ultra-thin, impossibly crisp coating and fried until golden. Then comes our Robata twist. Instead of serving it the traditional way, we pair it with our Japanese curry mayo, injecting rich, savoury curry flavours that transform this cult-favourite snack into something entirely new.

Crunchy, juicy and packed with flavour, Robatachiki pays homage to the convenience store staple that has fuelled countless adventures across Japan, while bringing a little of that travel magic to Melbourne.

Available daily until July 1st as part of Detour Dishes, exclusively at Robata.
